The Breath Letter #28

Dear Breather,

What is it you would like to give yourself permission for?

A break? A feeling? A movement? A gathering or experience?

According to which part of you don’t you have permission?

How would you use space if it was given to you?

The Breath

In-tension Breathing

This is a bit of a different kind of exercise as it’s not about the breath itself.
Instead; it’s about improving your interoceptive capacity and your ability to relax.

Sit down in an upright position, close your eyes and notice where you feel tension.
Usual suspects:
Jaws
Shoulders
Abdomen
Pelvic floor
Feet

One by one relax them.

Once they’re relaxed, keep breathing calmly in and out through the nose.
Continuously scanning your body, noticing which part tenses back up.

As soon as you notice this happening, breathe into the tension and soften again.

Repeat time after time.

The Content

Emotional Intelligence - podcast
I really enjoyed this episode with Dr. Marc Brackett. It really brought home why it’s so important for us to improve our emotional vocabulary. So not just improving our capacity to feel, but to accurately put into words what we feel. Go listen if you want to know why.

Larimar Sound Alchemy
52:42 minutes. That’s how long this track is.
It really helps me during work to stay focused and yet calm. See what it does for you.

Dogs
Ok there’s no link here. And yet from a “content” perspective, they’re the ones that delivered for me over the last month.
So maybe let this be an invitation for you to close your laptop after reading this update and go look for some dogs. Sit down and study them.
I promise you will feel better and will have learned something.
